This is a brief blog to share a recent make for my beautiful new baby grandson, Kelly Evoy Findlay, born, 10-8-25.
All kitted out for his first Halloween!
The pattern is called Skyrocket and is from a book called Scrap Frenzy by Sally Schnieder. The tag line for the book is, ‘Even more Quick-pieced Scrap Quilts’ . Not for me, it wasn’t! This is by far the most complicated quilt I have made and it involved a lot of cutting and piecing. Ultimately it turned out great and I am very happy with it, but I don’t think I’ll be repeating it too soon. I made the crib quilt size, but didn’t think it was quite big enough, so I added sashing and a border to increase its overall size.
The pattern includes an inner nine-patch. Four of the smaller blocks within the nine-patch are half-square triangles. The finished nine-patch lies on an angle and three more triangular pieces (four for each block), complete the larger block. Phew!
I used adorable polar bears and penguins fabric collection, #Art Gallery Fabrics, Arctic Tale.
Lovely embroidered label made by my quilting friend Frances. (My next project allowed me to use Frances’ amazing cutting machine. I’m hooked!)
